Teen Titans will be coming to the big screen in a Warner Bros. Pictures adaptation of the popular DC Comics series.

The live-action film is being produced by Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster. Mark Verheiden - best known for writing and producing the acclaimed TV series Smallville and Battlestar Galactica - will be writing the script. He is also the creator of the comic series Timecop and The Mask, both of which were adapted as screenplays in the early '90s.

The Teen Titans first appeared in 1964 as the junior partner to the successful Justice League franchise. The young superteam was formed by Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, Wonder Girl, and Speedy, the respective sidekicks of famous heroes Batman, the Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and the Green Arrow.

The series became successful in the 1980s with the development of a new comic in which the characters were no longer kids but college-age adults, allowing the authors to explore more mature themes. The series also saw the addition of original characters Cyborg, Starfire, and Raven.

Teen Titans found its most recent incarnation as a TV series on Cartoon Network. Running from 2003-06, the series used many of the heroes and story lines from the '80s comic.

The tone will be kept similar to Warner Bros. comic blockbusters Batman Begins and Superman Returns, Goldsman explained to The Hollywood Reporter. (The Advocate)
